Raider wrestlers finish 2nd at Sutherland InviteThe Medicine Valley wrestling team continued to impress last week when they traveled to Sutherland on Saturday for the Sutherland Invite. The Raiders came away with a second place finish as Southwest slipped out the victory. Medicine Valley finished 26 points behind the Roughriders and 10 points in front of third place Garden County. The Raiders placed seven of their eleven wrestlers and had three champions on the day. Josh Leas, Hunter Timmons and Rulon Taylor. Josh Leas finished the day 3-0 at 138 lbs after defeating Greg McKain 11-5 in the championship match. Hunter Timmons pinned Paul Downey in 2:53 in the championship match of 145 lbs. Timmons finished his day 4-0 with three pins. Rulon Taylor continued his impressive season Saturday with three straight pins as he demolished the 220 lb weight class. Taylor pinned Tayler Jensen of Dundy County-Stratton in a time of 3:36 as he improved to 16-0 on the season. Also placing for the Raiders were Thomas Foster, Jacob Brennemann, Quinten Chancellor and Jason Conklin. Foster finished 4th at 120 lbs after finishing his day 2-2. Brennemann lost a tough match to undefeated Tanner Teel in the 152 lb championship match. He finished his day 2-1 and improved to 14-3 on the season. Chancellor finished 4th at 170 lbs after finishing the day 2-2. Jason Conklin fell to Perkins County’s Vinny Ross for a 2nd place finish at 285 lbs. Conklin finished the day 2-1 and improved to 10-2 on the season. Also competing for the Raiders Saturday were Wayne Wills, Tanner Mickelsen, Rodger Farr and Brett Jones. Wills finished 0-2 at 106 lbs. Mickelsen finished his day 1-2 at 113 lbs. Farr finished 1-2 at 126 lbs and Jones finished 0-2 at 182 lbs. The Raiders enter the holiday break on a high note after winning two of their first four meets along with a 2nd place finish. Their only other meet was against Class A #1 Grand Island and 12 other Class B schools in which the Raiders finished 9th with five wrestlers. Medicine Valley will next compete on January 7th when they travel to the Amherst Invite.
