Raider Wrestlers finish 2nd at MV Invite

The Medicine Valley wrestling team continued their impressive season on Friday as they hosted the Medicine Valley Invite. The Raiders finished 2nd out of 19 teams, just 9.5 points behind Southern Valley. Mullen, Sedgewick County(CO) and Garden County rounded out the top five.

The Raiders top wrestlers continued to dominate as they finished with three individual champions. Hunter Timmons led the way for the Raiders as he was named the Invite’s “Outstanding Wrestler”. Timmons dominated the 145lb weight class after defeating his first two opponents by technical fall. Timmons then pinned his third opponent in a time of 1:22, before defeating Christian Miyamoto of Perkins County by a major decision 13-3.

Josh Leas and Rulon Taylor continued their impressive season as they also finished the day champions. Leas pinned three of his four opponents at 138lbs and Taylor pinned his first two opponents before winning a 4-1 decision over Taylor Jensen of Dundy County- Stratton.

The Raiders also had four other medalists including a few younger wrestlers that stepped up for the team. Quinton Chancellor and Ty Contrerez seem to be stepping up for the Raiders at the right time as Chancellor, a sophomore, finished 2nd and Contrerez, a freshman, finished 3rd.

Chancellor pinned his first opponent before upsetting Mike Miller of Garden County 7-4 on his way to the 2nd place finish at 170lbs. Contrerez, after winning his opening match, fell to top seeded Juan Fraire in the semifinals. He then went on to win his next two matches to finish 3rd at 160lbs.

Senior Jacob Brennemann continued his solid season with a third place finish at 152 lbs after falling to eventual runnerup Mitchell Kubert of Elwood in the semi-finals. Jason Conklin also had another impressive day as he finished 3rd at 285lbs after finishing the day 3-1.

Also wrestling for the Raiders was Wayne Wills, Tanner Mickelsen, Thomas Foster, Rodger Farr, Brett Jones and Corey Merrigan. The six wrestlers finished the day a combined 1 for 12, with Tanner Mickelsen coming away with the only win.

Medicine Valley next travels to Bartley on Saturday for the Southwest Invite, the last competition for the Raiders before Districts.
