On Friday, June 21st, Curtis hosted the annual Nebraska 11th Judicial District meeting of judges and attorneys at the Community Center.
The Nebraska 11th Judicial District is one of the twelve different Judicial Districts in Nebraska and has jurisdiction in Hooker, Thomas, Logan, McPherson, Lincoln, Perkins, Keith, Arthur, Chase, Dundy, Hayes, Hitchcock, Frontier, Red Willow, Furnas, Gosper and Dawson Counties.
The speaker for the meeting Friday was Federal District Judge John Gerrard. Gerrard was here to address civility matters in State and Federal Courts, how to increase confidence of the public, and how to promote better relationships among attorneys.
Mr. Gerrard and Attorney Jon Schroeder from Curtis were fraternity brothers in Phi Kappa Tau at Nebraska Wesleyan University. From there Gerrard went on to practice law for 14 years in Norfolk. Gerrard was then appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court and served on the court for 16 years. The President appointed John a United States Federal District Judge 1 ½ years ago. His offices are located in Lincoln and Omaha.
