Gleisberg sets new single-game school steal record

For their first game back from break last Friday, the Raiders hosted the Arapahoe Warriors.

The Raiders came out with control and defensive pressure to start the first quarter against the Warriors, as they would hold them to 11 points, while scoring 16. The second quarter, would be a different story as Medicine Valley was only allowed to put up 6 points, with Arapahoe scoring over double that with 18.

Second half was much of the same story as the Warriors outscored the Raiders in both the third and fourth quarters. Too many turnovers gave Arapahoe some easy shots, giving them the advantage. Although the Raiders would battle back at times, the Warriors would still claim the victory 52-67.

Seniors, Brendan Johnsen and Lucas Gleisberg, led the Raiders in scoring putting up 19 points each. Cody Aspenleiter contributed 6 points. Rebounding was led by Gleisberg, who pulled in 7 rebounds. Johnsen would bring down 6. Gleisberg also set a new school record with 10 steals in a single game.

Coach Gleisberg said, “The game plan was to limit scoring opportunities inside for Arapahoe and for the most part we did an excellent job of doing so. We played great defense throughout the game, but had too many turnovers when playing a good team.”

This week, the Raiders will host the Hayes Center Cardinals on Tuesday the 8th, followed by a trip to Benkelman on Friday the 11th to face the Dundy County-Stratton Tigers.
