Eustis-Farnam Lady Knights WIN FKC Tournament

The Eustis-Farnam Lady Knights opened their campaign in the Fort Kearney Conference Tourney with a rematch against the Pirates of Elwood at Loomis on January 28th.  The Lady Knights were looking for revenge as they were coming out and shot a little cold in the first quarter as they saw the Pirates get out and get the early lead after 1, 9-13 and were able to play good defense to hold the Pirates to 6 second quarter points to tie the Pirates at half 19-19.

 

The second half turned out to be a battle, through the 3rd quarter the Lady Knights were able to continue to get pressure on the ball and contest the Pirates shots, to trail going to the fourth 28-29, with the Knights struggling to make free throws to get a lead over the Pirates.  The final period the Knights were able to get to the boards and play great defense and prevent the Pirates to get 2nd chance points that allowed the Lady Knights to get the win over the Lady Pirates 43-36.  The win gives the Lady Knights a 500 record on the season at 9-9.

The Lady Knights advanced to the semi-finals to play the Loomis Wolves, who enter the contest with a record of 14-1.  The Lady Wolves showed early in the 1st half why they were ranked in the top 5 in the state as they were able to put the Lady Knights, who couldn’t get a basket to fall as it seemed, trailing 5-14 going to the 2nd period and found themselves in a double digit deficit at the break, down to the Lady Wolves 13-23.

The Lady Knights were able to come out and take care of the ball the second half only having 2 turnovers in the half that lead to great defense that got the Lady Knights easy transition baskets that cut into the Lady Wolves lead to be heading to the final period down 7 and a chance to get to the championship game Saturday night.  The Lady Knights were able to get hot from the field to outscore the Lady Wolves and move on to get the upset win and keep the championship ticket punched as they knocked off the Lady Wolves, 45-44, to improve to 10-9 on the season.

The E-F Lady Knights were able to get to go 3-0 on the week and win the FKC Tourney as in the final game they knocked off Amherst Broncos.  The Lady Knights and Lady Broncos both came out and weren’t able to get a rhythm going early as the Lady Knights were able to get the first quarter lead and not look back, as the Lady Knights led 8-7 and went on to lead at the break by a score of 20-12.

The Lady Knights were able to come out the 2nd half and play tough and smart defense and were able to keep the Lady Broncos from 2nd chance points.  The Lady Knights kept good pressure on the ball and were able to stretch their lead heading to the final period 34-21 were able to hit some key free throws down the stretch to hang on and knock the Lady Broncos off and winning the conference tourney by a score of 45-35 and improve to 11-9 on the year.
