The Eustis-Farnam Lady Knights celebrate after they beat the Anselmo-Merna Lady Coyotes 54-29 to finish third at the Brady Tournament on January 4th. The Eustis-Farnam Lady Knights were in Brady over their holiday break to play in their Holiday Tournament on Friday January 3rd. The Lady Knights opened play up playing the home team Brady Eagles. The Lady Eagles were able to control the tip and score a quick lay up to go up early as the Lady Knights were able to answer back as Melanie Johnson was able to get a layup as the Lady Eagles were then able to use their press and tough defense to open a 8-2 lead with 5:30 to go as then it was the Lady Knights who stayed tough on defense to cut the Eagles lead to 8-6 as the Brady was able to get a layup to force the Lady Knights to call time leading 10-6. The Lady Knights were able to stay close to the Lady Eagles as both teams scored back and forth only for the Lady Eagles to lead after 1st period of play 16-14.
In the second quarter of play it was the Lady Knights being able to play solid and tough defense as the Lady Knights were able to come out and tie the game at 19-19 at the 6:40 mark and later remain tied at 23-23 just under the 2:00 mark until the break. The Lady Knights were able to get the ball inside to Jessica Deterding, who was fouled on her shot to make 1 of 2 free throws to give the Lady Knights a 23-24 lead before the Lady Eagles were able to break free and get a layup to regain the lead at 25-24 with 7 seconds to go before half but the Lady Knights still wouldn’t go away as the in bounds play in Senior Guard, Melissa Johnson hits a half court 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Lady Knights the lead 25-27 at the break.
In the second half of play it was a defensive 3rd quarter as neither team ran away to get a big lead as it was the Lady Eagles getting out to a 6-0 run to open the lead up 31-27 with 2:20 to go in the quarter and a Knights time out. The Lady Knights defense stayed tough as they were able to get the lead down to 31-29. Just under a minute to go the Lady Eagles were able to get some easy transition buckets to close out the 3rd quarter of action leading the Lady Knights 35-31.
In the final period it was Brady’s defense that was able to jump out and get the Lady Eagles a 41-31 lead at the 6:00 mark to force Coach Walters to call time out. The Lady Knights were able to hit a 3 pointer out of the time out to close the gap to 41-34 and later a steal and a layup to cut the lead 41-36 before Brady went on a 9-2 run the final 4:30 of the game to hand the Lady Knights a loss with a score of 50-39 in the opening day of the tournament.

The Lady Knights were back in action Saturday, January 4th as they were in Brady to play the Lady Coyotes of Anselmo-Merna. It was all the Lady Knights from the tip as the Lady Knights open up with a 0-11 run with 4:00 to play in the first forcing the Lady Coyotes to call time out. The Lady Knights continued to punish the Lady Coyotes as they go ahead 0-15 before the Lady Coyotes were able to get to the line where they made a pair of free throws with 2:20 to go and trail the Lady Knights 6-19 after 1st quarter of play.
In the second quarter of play the Lady Knights defense stayed strong and were able to get to the bonus with 6:20 to go the Lady Knights were able to extend their lead to a 6-23 mark as Coach Walters put in his younger ladies to play out the remainder of the half where they were able to lead at the break 9-29.
In the second half it was the Lady Knights who got out and got a steal where they were able to get to the basket where Melanie Johnson was fouled and made 1 of 2 and later a basket to up their lead to 9-32 and forcing the Lady Coyotes to call time out where the Lady Knights were able to keep pressure on to allow Coach Walters to play his bench where they were able to keep a lead of 20-34 heading to the final period of play.
In the final quarter of play the Lady Knights were too much for the Lady Coyotes as they go on to get a 3rd place finish with a 29-54 final over the Lady Coyotes of Anselmo-Merna. The Lady Knights will be back in action Thursday, January 9th at home to play Amherst then on the road to Pleasanton Friday the 10th.
